Brand Strategy Workbook for Founder-Led Service Based Businesses
Build a brand people understand, remember and buy from
The DAMM Strategy System is the framework I use with clients, as a workbook you can complete in about two hours. Get your thinking onto the page, check it against what your customers actually say, and see where the gaps are.
Finish it and send it in, and I’ll review it for you. Free.
Marketing feels hard when your foundations are unclear
Many founders find themselves:
- Struggling to explain what makes them different
- Attracting the wrong customers
- Creating content without a clear direction
- Competing on price instead of value
- Constantly changing their messaging
- Sitting on ten ideas and no idea which one matters
The problem isn’t usually your product or service, you just need some more strategic clarity.
It’s difficult to market a business when you’re still figuring out how to talk about it.
The DAMM Strategy System
This workbook is the thinking I do with my clients, written down so you can have a first go on your own. I diagnose before I prescribe, and the workbook works the same way: it helps you find out what’s actually going on before you decide what to change.
It follows The DAMM Method I use with clients: Direction, Alignment, Meaning and Momentum. That’s four parts and 17 short sections.
No jargon. No 100-page documents that never get used. Just a practical, step-by-step process to help you understand:
- Who you help
- What makes you different
- Why customers choose you, in their words, not yours
- How your brand should communicate
- What your business stands for
- What to do first
What's included?
The DAMM Strategy System has four parts, one for each word of The DAMM Method, with 17 short sections between them. Every section has guided prompts, a rough time and an evidence check (Known, Believe or Guessing), so you can see which answers you can stand behind and which are still a hunch.
Direction
Why does this business exist, and what is it for? Get clear on your reason why and write your mission statement.
Alignment
Do your customers, your offer and your message actually line up? This part starts with what your customers actually say: read their reviews, look at your last ten enquiries and ask three customers two questions. Then work out your target audience, their pain points, your core services, your value proposition, what makes you different and your positioning statement.
Meaning
What do you stand for, and how does that come across? Define your values, brand attributes, personality, tone of voice and brand promise.
Momentum
What’s working, what’s in the way, and what happens next? Write your elevator pitch, take an honest look at your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and choose the one thing to do in the next 30 days.
Your Brand Blueprint
Pull everything onto one page. You’ll also get a before-and-after clarity score, a Where I’m stuck page for the things you couldn’t answer, and my own completed Blueprint as a worked example.
By the end, you'll have
- A clear mission statement
- Defined target audience
- Strong positioning statement
- Unique selling proposition
- Brand personality
- Tone of voice guidelines
- Brand promise
- Elevator pitch
- One-page brand blueprint
In short: you'll know what you have evidence for, what's still a hunch, and what to do first.
The DAMM Strategy System
Is this right for you?
If you’ve got this far, then the answer is most likely yes but just to make sure, The DAMM Strategy System is ideal if:
- You run a founder-led service based business and you know it has more potential
- Sales feel patchy, referrals are slowing or clients aren't staying
- Your messaging feels inconsistent
- You've never written your strategy down
- You're planning a rebrand or a new website, or investing in marketing, and want stronger foundations first
- You're launching a new service based business and want to start with clarity
This is NOT for you if:
✕ You’re looking for someone else to do the work
✕ You want instant results without taking action
✕ You’re expecting a workbook to magically fix your business
✕ You’d rather not hear what your customers actually think
Why I created The DAMM Strategy System
Most founders I speak to don’t have a bad business. They’ve got the experience, the skills and customers who rate them. What they’ve lost is the thread: why they started, who they’re really for, and what makes them worth choosing.
I started in design, but over time I became much more interested in what sat behind the work. Why are we doing this? Who is it for? And are we solving the right problem in the first place?
That’s why I diagnose before I prescribe. So I took the framework I use with clients and turned it into a workbook you can complete yourself, to get the clarity you were missing.
Not every business is ready for a full diagnostic. But every business benefits from getting its thinking down on the page.

Free review: Send it to me when you're done
Once you’ve finished, email your completed workbook, including the Where I’m stuck page, to dominic@damm-creative.com. Please add your name, your business name, your website and your biggest challenge right now. I’ll come back to you personally with:
- One thing you're doing well
- One blind spot worth addressing
- One recommendation to strengthen your brand
Creating a strategy is one thing. Applying it is where the real value lies.
What happens after the workbook
The workbook gets your thinking onto the page. Turning it into something your customers can see is a different job, and it’s where a lot of people stall. Here’s how I can help, as far as you’d like to take it.
1. Send it in for your free review. Included with the workbook, as above.
2. Talk it through: £250. A 60-minute call. We go through your workbook together, work out what’s actually holding things back, and agree what to do first and what can wait.
3. The DAMM Review, if it makes sense. A four-week diagnostic where I look at your whole business through The DAMM Method and tell you what’s working, what’s holding it back and what to do next. If you’ve completed the workbook, the £97 comes off the fee.

If I don’t think you need more help from me, I’ll tell you. I’m not here to hand you a workbook and wave goodbye. I’m ready to move in.
FAQs
“Working through The DAMM Strategy System gave me the opportunity to really examine the foundations of my business: who my clients are, what my brand represents, where I’m going and, perhaps most importantly, why. … I now see that document as an anchor. Something I can return to as my business grows, develops and inevitably changes.”
Alexandra Hurt, Founder, Alex Feels
About two hours in total, with a rough time against each section. Allow about 10 minutes beforehand to gather a few things, and expect section 3 (what your customers say) to be the one that runs over. It’s self-paced, so if you need longer to get the answers right, take it.
Yes. You’ll answer from what you intend and believe, use Guessing freely, and speak to three people who could be your first customers. It’s one of the best times to write a strategy.
Yes, and that’s who I wrote it for. Many established businesses have never written their strategy down, and checking it against real customers often shows the problem isn’t where you thought it was.
No. It’s written for business owners, not strategists. Plain words, and nobody’s marking it.
A little, yes. Section 3 asks you to read some reviews, look at your last ten enquiries and ask three customers two questions. It’s the part most people want to skip, and the part that makes the rest honest.
The workbook is your first go, on your own. The DAMM Review is a four-week diagnostic where I look at your business with you through The DAMM Method. If you’ve completed the workbook, the £97 comes off the fee.
